Late-Race Cautions Wipe Out Fuel Mileage
Strategy for DIRECTV Team

Race/Date: Centurion Boats at The Glen – August 10, 2008 - Location: Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International - Start Position: 12th (based on owner points) - Finish Position: 23rd
Points Position: 13th (dropped one position)

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. -- For the second consecutive weekend, pit strategy and fuel mileage were key determinants of a strong finish but the plans made for the Centurion Boats at The Glen didn’t pan out as well at Watkins Glen International for Clint Bowyer as they did the week before at Pocono.

The two-stop strategy went out the window when multiple late-race cautions, including a 40-minute plus red flag allowed a number of cars to save enough fuel to make it to the end of the race. As a result, Bowyer and the No. 07 DIRECTV team were left with a 23rd-place finish and are now on the outside looking in at the Race to the Chase. Read More!

On August 5, 2006, the 29-year-old driver, along with teammate Jeff Burton, swept the top-two spots in qualifying making it an all RCR front row. Daytona Beach, Fla. – Clint Bowyer managed to hang on to the Jack Daniel’s Chevy during the final lap of Saturday night’s Coke Zero 400 Powered by Coca-Cola and turned in a ninth-place finish in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Fourth of July weekend visit to Daytona International Speedway.

As the field thundered through the tri-oval to take the white flag, Bowyer made contact with David Ragan and did everything but crash. Remarkably enough, Bowyer used the outside retaining wall to gather the Jack Daniel’s Chevy back up, relinquishing only a minimal amount of positions in the process. Read More!

The top-five finish halted a streak of less-than-desired results for Mr. Jack’s Crew and moved Bowyer up two spots, to 10th, in the 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series point standings. He is now 158 points out of fifth place and 32 points ahead of 12th. Read More!

* Michigan Minutes … Sunday will mark Bowyer’s fifth Sprint Cup Series race at MIS. The Emporia, Kan., driver hasn’t had the best of results having posted only two top-20 finishes at the expansive two-mile Brooklyn, Mich., oval. The two-time winner on NASCAR’s senior circuit struggled with handling-related issues in both races last season. He was on the fast-track to a top-three finish in August 2006 until the motor in the Jack Daniel’s Chevy let go with just three laps remaining. In his first Sprint Cup race at Michigan, Bowyer started ninth but was collected in an early race incident, leaving him 39th in the final rundown. In four starts, the 29-year-old driver has posted a respectable 14.5 starting average but also holds a disappointing 26.3 average finish at the south central Michigan circuit.  Read More!

Race/Date: Pocono 500 – June 8, 2008 - Location: Pocono Raceway – Long Pond, Pa.
Start Position: 35th - Finish Position: 39th - Points Position: 11th (Fell Three Positions)

LONG POND, Pa. – It has often been said that bad luck comes in threes. If the old adage proves to be true, then Clint Bowyer and the Jack Daniel’s racing team should be headed for a quick turnaround after logging their third consecutive finish of 25th or worse on Sunday at Pocono Raceway.

While attempting to pass Paul Menard’s No. 15 Chevy on lap 81 of the 500-mile event, Bowyer’s No. 07 Chevy got loose in turn three and spun down the front straightaway. Juan Montoya had to nowhere to go and slammed the right-rear corner of Bowyer’s machine, sending the Emporia, Kan., driver hard into the inside retaining wall. Read More!

CONCORD, N.C. – Clint Bowyer fell victim to overheating issues in the early goings of Sunday night’s Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, forcing the driver of the Jack Daniel’s Chevrolet to pit under green-flag conditions, just 18 laps in to the longest race on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule.

Bowyer’s black and white No. 07 Chevy picked up debris that had blown on to the race track blocking the front grill openings and causing the water and oil temperatures to spike.
